| Zarnesti Gorge in the Carpathian Mountains |
In the Zarnesti Gorge we watched of a pair of Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria) at their nest site high up on the side of the gorge's wall.

In a glade the mountain butterflies and flora distracted us and having chased down a Fritillary sp. for a close focus shot - I was somewhat amused to find it was a Duke of Burgundy (Hamearis lucin).

Plants seen included the endemic Carpathian Leopard's Bane (Doronicum carpaticum), and the rather lovely Alpine Clematis (Clematis alpina) and a couple of Orchid sp.

As we retraced our steps to leave the gorge the male Wallcreeper stunned us all by alighting on rocks at the side of the small stream running through the gorge, where it proceeded to wash and preen itself.

In the evening, we headed to the Stramba Valley to watch Brown Bear (Ursos arctos) from a hide - we were greeted by the Ranger who having escorted us to the hide, then laid out a large amount of corn in front of it.
Almost immediately after the Ranger returned to the hide, the first of the Brown Bears descended the woodland slope and began to feed.
In Ca. an hour and half' of hide time - we watched up to 9 Brown Bear (7 females + 2 males), 3 Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) and several Raven (Corvus corax).
Our drive out was noatble for the Ural Owl (Strix uralensis) which flew out of the woodland canopy and proceeded to fly ahead of us for a short while.
